It is only a day or two left until “The Champions” hymn rings in yet again after a week for the 2nd legs, and reminds us of club football’s most elite platform there is. For fantasy managers, there were 5 free transfers available in the game for the quarter-finals. It’s obvious this article is meant for only those who didn’t use up all the 5 free transfers. With the likes of Salah, Benzema, Lewandowski, and other obvious contenders for the fantasy squad spots, this UCL Fantasy Matchday 10 (Quarter Finals 2nd Leg ) Watchlist 2021/22 would suggest 6 players (most of whom are differentials) managers may consider while utilizing those 5 or the remaining free transfers. So do read till the end.
Starting with 32 teams, now only the top 8 survived through, played the 1st legs, and would be battling again, in their respective fixtures for the top spot. There was a strange symmetry in the scorelines of the 4 fixtures, as 2 home teams Villareal and Manchester City won 1-0, while the other 2 home teams, Chelsea and Benfica lost 1-3.
UCL Fantasy Quarter Final 2021/22 (Matchday 10) Watchlist
1. Ederson (Goalkeeper) – 6.1 Million
It was a tight affair at the Etihad in the first leg and consequently, Atletico failed to have a single shot on target. The €6.1m goalie of Manchester City, has had 26 points in his fantasy bag so far, but 17 out of it came in the knockout stage. The intense group stage fixtures cost him some fantasy points for sure. The Brazilian is owned by 12% of fantasy managers and is guaranteed a start despite his appearance in the weekend’s clash against Liverpool in the PL.
So far, Ederson has saved an astounding 69.9% shots on goal, besides having 55.3% clean sheets (mostly due to the compact defense of his team) in all the matches he has played this season. Hence, looking forward to a tight game against Atletico, Ederson surely may be a decent choice to have, especially considering he has the least price among all the premium goalies at this stage. UEFA officially has predicted Ederson to score the maximum points out of all the goalies, at 5.8 this week.
2. Virgil van Dijk (Defender) – 6.3 Million
A rare error from Konate cost a clean sheet for Liverpool back at the Estadio da Luz against Benfica. Now with the game at Anfield, Liverpool would want to protect that 2 goal cushion and then build upon it. They have been considerably good at their home stadium this season with the exception of a loss to Inter in the RO16. With a confirmed start at the back, van Dijk (€6.3m) may be a player to have from this fixture. He made 9 ball recoveries in the first leg and ended up with decent points despite losing the clean sheet.
The big Dutchman has a 35.2% successful pressure percentage and 55% tackles won percentage, which helps him in ball recoveries. Besides a 78.3% aerial ball win stat altogether has made Uefa project him getting 7.2 points this week against Benfica. Also, lest we forget the goal three he poses from setpieces.
3. Dani Parejo (Midfielder) – 7.8 Million
The Yellow Submarines took the football fans with hock as they beat the giants Bayern Munich in the first leg. With 0.27 xG+xA per 90 this season, Dani Parejo has been one of Villareal’s main men in this UCL campaign. The €7.8m Spaniard has accumulated 50 points so far this season. Guaranteed starts, 3 assists, 1 goal, and 3 ‘player of the match’ awards contributed to those points tally the most. He has 3.84 shot-creating actions per 90, which may prove to be vital against Bayern in the 2nd leg.
Parejo got full rest in the weekend’s fixture against Bilbao, just for this important fixture ahead. The UEFA algorithm expects him to return 7.2 points this week, which looks tough against Bayern, but not impossible. He is also a differential choice (1% ownership) and a handsome alternative to his teammate Danjuma who has become a more popular choice now.
4. Kevin De Bruyne (Midfielder) – 11.0 Million
Yet another choice from Manchester City, the Belgian midfield maestro hasn’t had an impressive fantasy UCL season thus far as per his standards mainly due to Pep’s rotations in the squad. Still, with a 0.58 xG+xA across all competitions, and a 7% ownership, de Bruyne would be a decent option to have. He was the sole goal scorer in a tight affair in the first leg at Etihad, and to comfort things, he might look to replicate things at Wanda Metropolitano too.
Besides, he is expected to provide 7.8 points this week, per UEFA algorithms. Further, his 5.4 shot-creating actions (SCA) per 90 and 0.47 goal-creating actions per 90 (GCA) enhance his Resume for this week.
5. Vinicius Jr. (Forward) – 8.7 Million
Defending Champions Chelsea had a disappointing home game as they lost 1-3 to Real Madrid. Though it was Benzema who was behind Chelsea’s misery, Vinicius’ contributions can’t be ignored. Especially considering his low price, a guarantee to start, and ability to assist Benzema. With 0.64 xG+xA and a combined 29 goal contributions so far (17G 12A), the stats are enough to convince fantasy managers.
So far he has bagged 45 points and is 3rd in the ranks of forwards for fantasy points. The UEFA algorithm, which we always prefer to refer to in our article, expects him to return 7.7 points this week.
6. Luis Díaz (Forward) – 8.1 Million
The Colombian has so far been a superb signing for the Reds. With 0.76 xG+xA o far in Liverpool colors, he surely can be the next big thing for his team. From the fantasy perspective too, he has obtained 38 points this season, for Porto and Liverpool combined. In the 1st leg, he obtained 12 points for a goal and an assist and a ‘player-of-the-match award.
With 4.89 SCA an offensive threat he would pose to the Benfica team he has known since his Porto days is undeniable. Furthermore, only 7% ownership and a low price of €8.1m look convincing. Subject to his start against Manchester City in tonight’s game, managers can predict if he would play in the 2nd leg on Wednesday.
