FPL Gameweek 27 Watchlist 2021/22
The focus this week is primarily on utilizing the Free Hit chip for this gameweek 27. With that being said, here are five players under consideration in this gameweek after impressing over the weekend.
1. Ben Mee (Defender) – 4.8 million
Burnley kept their sixth clean sheet of the season in a 3-0 win over Brighton on Saturday restricting the Seagulls to just 0.42 expected goals the second-lowest tally in gameweek 26 so far. Three of their shutouts have come during the last four gameweeks as they continue to fight to avoid relegation. Only Arsenal and Chelsea have considered fewer than their 0.4 goals per game on average in that time.
Fullbacks Connor Roberts and Erik Pieters carried the threat from open play with 3 attempted assists and 6 shots respectively in the last four games but Ben Mee ranks top amongst Burnley defenders for both expected goals and expected assists in the same period thanks to his dominance from set-pieces.
Crucially both of the Claret’s double gameweek 27 opponents rank amongst the bottom four teams for chances conceded from set plays this season and meanwhile Crystal Palace has scored just two goals across their last four matches with only Watford faring worse.
2. Jadon Sancho (Midfielder) – 8.9 Million
Manchester United and Leeds gave us a six-goals thriller on Sunday with Jadon Sancho contributing 2 assists. No player during the match created as many as his 2 big chances or took as many as his 7 touches in the opposition penalty box.
The 21-year-old has struggled to settle since his summer move but now has 3 goal involvements in his last four league matches where he’s earned four consecutive starts. Since gameweek 24 only Raheem Sterling converted his 2.2 expected goals figure amongst midfielders while only Salah has fired more than his 9 shots in the box. He trails only Son, Bruno Fernandes, and Ward-Prowse for expected assists with a figure of 1.33.
Manchester United rank joined top with Manchester City for goals in that time with eight but have played an extra game. Their opponents Watford have tightened up under Roy Hodgson with two clean sheets in their last four matches but they’ve considered the majority of their chances down the left flank.
3. Heung-Min Son (Midfielder) – 10.8 Million
The match was heading towards a 2-2 draw until Conte and company stabbed Pep’s side at the last minute at Etihad where Son played a direct hand in two very crucial goals. The South Korean international has been in very fine form since gameweek 14, only blanked once, keeping an average of 7.4 FPL points per match. In the above-mentioned period, he has scored 5 goals firing 24 shots (keeping 13 on target) with a non-penalty expected goals figure of 0.57 (xG) per 90.
In that spell, he has also provided 4 assists with an expected assists figure of 0.49 (xA) per 90 creating 7 big chances. Son has an average of 6.8 touches in the opposition penalty box per 90, which are great numbers for a midfielder. Spurs has a favorable run of fixtures from FPL’s point of view, where Leeds and Everton are lined up and followed by DGW29.
4. Riyad Mahrez (Midfielder) – 8.7 Million
It looked like Manchester City was about to rescue a point against Tottenham Spurs when Riyad Mahrez converted a 92nd-minute penalty to make it 2-2 but Harry Kane had other ideas. That was the seventh penalty awarded to the league leaders this season and six of those have come in the last eight gameweeks with Mahrez stepping up to take four.
The Algerian has earned 38 FPL points during that period an average of 9.7 points per 90 minutes which ranks top amongst teammates with a minimum of one start. His 3.61 expected goals figure only trails Raheem Sterling, another strong free hit differential with a league-high 9 big chances in the last eight gameweeks for the England international.
Manchester City has averaged 2.1 goals per game on the road this season with only Liverpool faring better and since Lampard took charge of Everton in gameweek 24, just four teams have conceded more goals per game, and only Tottenham, Leeds, and Norwich have faired worse for expected goals conceded per game.
5. Wout Weghorst (Forward) – 6.5 Million
Since the arrival of Weghorst Burnley has lost only 1 game out of 4. In those matches, he has gathered a total of 21 FPL points with one double-digit haul. Weghorst has netted 2 goals landing 9 shots (3 on target) and provided 1 assist creating 4 big chances. He has an expected goals figure of 0.26 (xG) per 90 and an expected assists figure of 0.13 (xA) per 90.
Wout Weghorst has an average of 3.25 touches in the opposition’s penalty box per game and a total of 6 progressive carries during the above-mentioned spell. Burnley is the only team that has double gameweek 27 facing Crystal Palace and Leicester City. The Clarets were struggling at the bottom of the table before the arrival of Weghorst but now look to regain back their form and come out from the relegation zone.
